Emergency Planning

The emergency plan is not running at the moment.

What is it?

Emergency planning makes sure we have the correct arrangements and procedures in place to deal with major incidents or emergencies such as floods, fires, chemical releases or transport accidents.

We work with the emergency services, NHS, transport and utility companies to develop local emergency plans to make sure we can deliver an effective response to emergency incidents and safeguard communities across Maidstone.

During most major emergencies and particularly chemical related major emergencies, the initial instructions from the emergency services are for residents in the affected area to:

Go in
Stay in
Tune in

You should:

  • Go immediately indoors
  • Close all windows
  • Avoid cellars and basements
  • Stay in a room away from the industrial area
  • Tune into the radio (regular updates will be given, including the all clear once the emergency is over)
