Prescriptions and medicines from home

If someone needs help to arrange for prescription or other medicines to be delivered, the following information may be helpful.

Most prescriptions are now signed, sent and processed electronically, you can arrange for your prescription to be delivered. Most pharmacies offer a delivery service. They will deliver directly to you or they can arrange for your items to be sent via Royal Mail or another delivery company. They can also deliver ‘over the counter’ medicines to you.

If you have a repeat prescription you usually collect or you require a new one you will need to contact your GP first. The NHS provides the following guidance on how to do this online:

Online services and apps

If you're registered with a GP surgery, you can use online services and apps that may allow you to:

  • order repeat prescriptions
  • see parts of your health record, including test results
  • book, check or cancel appointments

You may not be able to book appointments directly at the moment. Please check your GP surgery's website for how to contact them.

If you can book an appointment, it is likely to be a phone or video appointment. Find out how to start using online services.
