Examples of Book of Remembrance Entries

Before completing the application form, please note the following: Before completing the application form, please note the following:

Line 1 can accommodate a maximum of 32 characters/spaces (27 characters/spaces if an emblem is to be included). This line will always be inscribed as follows:

Jones, Frederick Alan

This line can include rank or title, maiden or former names, for example:

Branson, Robert John, Flt. Lt

Green, Anthony, M.B.E

Parker, Ann Mary, Née Jones

Smith, formerly Dawson, Mary

Line 2 onwards can accommodate a maximum of 40 characters/spaces per line (35 characters if an emblem is to be included). Emblems will take up the space of 5 lines in the book. Applicants should provide a copy of the emblem with their application (personal photographs can be copied and returned if so desired, however we cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage).

There is no rule as to the date of entry. Some people choose to use birthdays or, if an entry is for a husband and wife, the date of their wedding anniversary is sometimes used.

Dates will be inscribed in full, for example 9.10.1937 will appear as 9th October 1937, however, in order to prevent an inscription extending onto an additional line unnecessarily, the month may be abbreviated.
