The Archbishop’s Palace is one of a group of medieval buildings of great historical significance, including All Saints Church and the Archbishop’s Tithe Barn and Stables (now the Carriage Museum), located in Maidstone Town Centre.
We own the Archbishop’s Palace and have let it to Kent County Council (KCC) for use as a Registry Office and Coroners Court since 2005. The lease has now expired and from September 2022 they will pass the property back to us.
We're therefore considering future uses of the building. A feasibility study was commissioned and there are currently six options that're being considered. This consultation seeks feedback on the suggested options and other alternative uses for the Palace.
Your response is important to us because we need to understand which options residents prefer when Councillors evaluate this issue.
The results from this consultation will be reported to our Policy and Resources Committee later this year.
