Committee details

The General Purposes Group consists of 6 Members of the Council (plus 1 Independent Co-opted Member of Standards Committee when the Group is considering making recommendations to Council as to the appointment of Independent Persons to serve on the Standards Committee) and the terms of reference are as follows:-

1.  To consider any matters relating to electoral registration, elections or electoral boundaries which have not been delegated to the Electoral Registration Officer or Returning Officer.

2.  To recommend to the Council the appointment of an Electoral Registration Officer and Returning Officer.

3.  To recommend to the Council the appointment of Independent Persons to serve on the Standards Committee.

4.  To be responsible for the appointment of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Members’ Allowances.

5.  To consider matters relating to the Mayoralty where appropriate.

6.  To approve the Council Tax Base.

7.  To appoint Council nominees to outside bodies and seminars as appropriate.
