1.           NOMINATIONS TO OUTSIDE BODIES

 

1.1        Issue for Decision

 

1.1.1   To consider nominations received for Outside Bodies.

 

1.2        Recommendation of the Democratic Services Manager

 

1.2.1   That the nominations set out in the report be considered by the Group.

 

1.3        Reasons for Recommendation

 

1.3.1   The nominations to Outside Bodies to be made are listed below and copies of the Nomination Forms received are attached at Appendix A.

 

1.3.2   Action with Communities in Rural Kent

 

Councillors FitzGerald and Sams have been the representatives of the Council since 21 May 2009.  Following the review undertaken last year, Action with Communities in Rural Kent requested that the term of office start from 1 September for a period of 1 year.

 

Vacancies: 2 x Committee Members

 

The term of office starts on 1 September 2010 for a period of 1 year.

 

A nomination has been received from Councillor Nelson-Gracie.

 

Recommended: That the Group make appointments to the vacancies on Action with Communities in Rural Kent.

 

1.3.3   Citizens Advice Bureau

 

Councillors Mrs Gibson and Mrs Ring have been the representatives of the Council since 14 July 2009.  Following the review undertaken last year, the Citizens Advice Bureau requested that the term of office start from 1 September 2010 for a period of 4 years.

 

Vacancies: 2 x Committee Members

 

The term of office starts on 1 September 2010 for a period of 4 years.

 

Nominations have been received from Councillors Mrs Gibson and Mrs Ring.

 

Recommended: That the Group make appointments to the vacancies on the Citizens Advice Bureau.

 

1.3.4   Maidstone Street Pastors Management Committee

 

It was agreed at the last meeting of this Group that nominations be requested from all Members for the new Outside Body.

 

Vacancy: 1 x Committee Member

 

The term of office starts on 15 May 2010 for a period of 3 years.

 

Nominations have been received from Councillors Mrs Parvin and Mrs Joy.

 

Recommended: That the Group make an appointment to the vacancy on the Maidstone Street Pastors Management Committee.

 

1.3.5   Maidstone YMCA

 

Councillor Yates was appointed to this Outside Body at the last meeting of this Group.   There was still one vacancy and the Group agreed to request further nominations.

 

Vacancy: 1 x Committee Member

 

The term of office starts on 21 May 2010 for a period of 1 year.

 

A nomination has been received from Councillor D Mortimer.

 

Recommended: That the Group make an appointment to the vacancy on the Maidstone YMCA.

 

1.3.6   Relate West and Mid Kent

 

Nominations for this Outside Body have been sought from Members and Staff and Members have been asked to nominate members of the public who may be interested and no nominations have been received. 

This Outside Body was included on the list of appointments required for this current round and, again, no nominations have been received.

 

Recommended: That the Group note that there has been no Council representation on Relate West and Mid Kent since September 2009.

 

1.3.7   South East Employers

 

Councillors Ash (Committee Member) and English (Substitute Member) have been the representatives of the Council for the past year.

 

Vacancies: 1 x Committee Member, 1 x Substitute Member

 

The term of office starts on 22 July 2010 for a period of 1 year.

 

A nomination has been received from Councillor Mrs Ring for the Committee Member role.

 

Recommended: That the Group make an appointment to the vacancy on the South East Employers.

 

1.3.8   Vinters Valley Park Trust

 

Councillor Wooding was the representative of the Council until he stood down at the election in May this year.

 

Vacancy: 1 x Committee Member

 

The term of office started on 7 September 2009 for a period of 2 years. 

 

Nominations have been received from Councillors Naghi and Parvin.

 

Recommended: That the Group make an appointment to the vacancy on the Vinters Valley Park Trust.

 

1.4        Alternative Action and why not Recommended

 

1.4.1   The Group could decide not to appoint to Outside Bodies but this is not recommended as representation within the Community is an important role.
