Litter Enforcement

         

Report of: Overview & Scrutiny Officer

 

1.      Introduction

1.1        At its meeting on 23 September 2008, the Environment and Leisure Overview and Scrutiny Committee interviewed the Environmental Services Manager, the Street Scene Manager and the Waste Management Education Officer with regard to initiatives being undertaken to prevent littering (minutes attached at Appendix A). 

1.2        At a later meeting of the Committee on 28 October 2008, the Environmental Enforcement Manager provided a written information note with regard to litter enforcement.  This is attached at Appendix B.

1.3        The Committee discussed its future work programme at its meeting on 27 January 2009 and agreed that it would be useful to receive a further update on litter enforcement.  The relevant extract from the draft minutes of the meeting is as follows:

“The Committee noted the progress of the recommendations arising from the fly-tipping report and agreed that an update be received on litter enforcement.” 

 

2.      Recommendation

2.1     The Assistant Director of Environmental Services, Steve Goulette and the Environmental Enforcement Operations Officer, Martyn Jeynes, will be in attendance to update the Committee on litter enforcement.

2.2     Members are recommended to interview the officers with regard to litter enforcement and make recommendations as appropriate.
