REPORT OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Report prepared by Steve Goulette

Date Issued: 21 May 2009

1.2.1                   That the Cabinet Member agrees that the responses identified in the report be sent to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

1.3                        Reasons for Recommendation

1.3.1                   On 14th April 2009, officers attended the meeting of the Regeneration and Sustainable Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee, to present an update on proposed changes to the Park & Ride establishment and the introduction of CCTV monitoring.

1.3.2                   The Committee raised questions with officers on a number of matters and made three specific recommendations which are provided in the Appendix to the report.

1.3.3                   The recommendations relate to the concerns raised by the Committee in relation to maintaining customer service levels and the installation of CCTV to monitor security at each site.  The Committee also urged Planning Policy to expedite the work on the sustainable funding of Park and Ride.

1.4                        Alternative Action and Why Not Recommended

1.4.1                   It would be possible to not respond to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee’s recommendations.  Clearly this would not be a positive action from the Cabinet Member and is not recommended.

1.5.1                   Corporate objectives to improve access across the borough through better roads, public transport and services, directly relate to the services provided by Parking Services and the Park & Ride operation.
