Maidstone Borough Council elections

Councils are responsible for providing services and facilities to residents. In a local government election, you can vote to elect councillors to represent you at council meetings and on a local level. These elections take place every four years.

The next local government elections will take place in 2028. 49 Councillors will be elected, representing 22 wards across the Borough. You can find more information about the changes to the ward boundaries and councillor numbers on our electoral boundaries page.

Who can vote

To vote in a local government election a person must be registered to vote and also:

• be 18 years or over on polling day
• be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a qualifying citizen of the European Union
• be a UK resident
• not be subject to any legal incapacity to vote

By-elections

If a councillor vacancy becomes available outside of the normal election timetable, we may hold a by-election if requested. If not requested, it may be left vacant and filled at the next scheduled elections.
