Your Council Tax bill explained


Your bill is made up of three sections. This is an example of your bill which you will receive each year or if there has been any changes to your account.

Top section

The top section contains information about your account.

1. the date the bill was issued.
2. your account reference.
3. the reference for your property.
4. your details and address.
5. anyone else who is liable for Council Tax.
6. the property address if it is different to the address we have sent the bill to.

Middle section

This section contains details of how much your total charge is and the period the bill covers.

7. the period the bill is for.
8. the full amount of the bill.
9. any deductions you have, for example, single person discount or Council Tax Support.
10. your monthly payment amounts and dates due.
11. the barcode which you use to pay.

Bottom section

12. a breakdown of your bill and where the money goes to as well as the percentage change from the previous year.
