Bedbugs

Bedbugs are small, reddish-brown insects that bite people while they sleep. They do not spread disease, but the bites can be itchy.

Bedbug signs

If you have bed bugs in your home, you may notice:

  • blood stains on your sheets or pillows
  • tiny dark spots on your mattresses
  • itchy bites on your skin in a line or group
  • a musty smell

Removing bedbugs from your property

To help prevent bedbugs, keep your home clean and clutter-free. You should:

  • wash bedding and clothing at 60°C and tumble-dry
  • vacuum your furniture, mattresses, and floors
  • throw away the vacuum bag and any dust carefully
  • seal small cracks and gaps to remove hiding places
