Graves and memorials

General graves

General graves can have a headstone with kerbs. It is recommended that no memorial is fitted within 12-18 months of the interment to allow for grave settlement. Headstone and or kerbs need to be removed by a stonemason for further burials.

Lawn graves

Lawn graves are permitted to have a headstone only. There is no waiting time for memorials being fitted, as they sit outside of the grave space. Headstones do not need to be removed for further burials.

Memorials

All headstones and or kerbs must be approved by a permit application before fitting and can only be fitted by an approved stonemason. For rules and regulations, email bereavementservices@maidstone.gov.uk.
