We often receive Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests for copies of Food Hygiene Reports. Therefore, for the purposes of transparency and openness, we have compiled comprehensive information regarding this common topic below.

Our Environmental Health Team are responsible for enforcing the food safety standards regulated by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Food Hygiene Reports

After a Food Safety Officer has inspected a food outlet, a hygiene report is completed. This contains the food hygiene rating. To find out the rating of any food business in Maidstone, visit our Maidstone Food Hygiene Ratings page.

Please note that if you request a copy of a particular food hygiene report under the FOI Act, the report cannot be released until 20 days after it has been finalised. This is to allow time for the appeals process to be followed and for any enforcement visits that are part of an ongoing investigation.
