|
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE COULD YOU BRING TO THE ORGANISATION?:
|
I am a founder member and Chair of Bredhurst Woodland Action Group (BWAG) and I believe my work with BWAG will complement the role of Vinters Valley Park Trustee.
BWAG is a conservation / environmental charity which was set up in 2005. BWAG manages much of Bredhurst Woods; an ancient woodland of about 600 acres surrounded by 400 acres of chalk grassland.
BWAG has approximately 400 members and has raised over £200,000 from various grants and donations to enable the woodland to be turned around from a neglected area, heavily used for fly-tipping and illegal off-road use, into a much-loved area now used extensively by walkers, cyclist and horse riders. We hold monthly volunteer task days, led by Kent Wildlife Trust which regularly attracts 20+ volunteers and monthly club nights with various speakers throughout the year. These attract audiences of around 40 per month. As an example, last month Simon Ginnaw led a bat walk and this month we have biologist, Clive Nuttman, speaking on Little Things that Run the World a talk looking at the importance of invertebrates. We also hold many social events throughout the year.
I have a proven track record of managing an environmental conservation community project and I have an extensive network of contacts in both local authority, wildlife/conservation groups and experts who may be able to assist with the work of Vinters Valley Park.
In 2016 BWAG was one of 193 charities across the UK awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service and, in the same year, I was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to woodland management and the community.
For more details of my work with BWAG please visit https://www.facebook.com/BredhurstWoodlandActionGroup
BWAGs Facebook page has over 1600 followers and is an ideal platform to advertise nature related events across Kent.
Both organisations have similar aims and I believe I have the knowledge and experience to help develop many aspects of Vinters Valley Park and I would welcome the opportunity to join the board of trustees.
