Maidstone Local Development Scheme Update Additional documents: Minutes: The Cabinet Member for Planning Policy and Management introduced the report and advised that the deadline for submission of an up to date Local Development Scheme (LDS), required by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, was 6 March 2025. The document reflected changes from Local Government Reorganisation with a shift in focus from Development Plan Documents (DPDs) to Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs). SPDs fit better with the tight timeframe and were not required to go before an inspector. There was also a change in schedule relating to the Gypsy and Traveller DPD, which officers had determined to need more work.
The Strategic Planning Manager added that central government were introducing significant reform to the planning system and that the new Local Plan would be delivered under these changes. The changes mentioned in the report therefore did not relate to the new Local Plan.
The Committee acknowledged that there was there was a restricted time frame and agreed to approve the recommendations.
RESOLVED to RECOMMEND to the CABINET: That
1.
Officers undertake the required measures to
facilitate formal withdrawal of the Design and Sustainability
Development Plan Document; and 2. The Local Development Scheme 2025-2027, attached at Appendix 1 to the report, be recommended for adoption by Council in order that it may be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government by the 6 March 2025 deadline. |

Public Health Work and Health Strategy Consultation Additional documents:
Minutes: The Cabinet Member for Healthier Stronger Communities introduced the report and outlined the purpose of the survey, which had a deadline of 21 March 2025 for submission. The Committee were invited to add comments, particularly regarding supporting small businesses.
The Health Policy Officer advised that, although the questions were narrow, they had referenced the Council’s work with Economic Development, existing businesses and how we could support anchor organisations. It was stated that the strategy would be easier to implement in an office-based setting rather than in manual labour, factory or gig-economy employment where there were different vulnerabilities.
It was raised that the response was comprehensive with good signposting and the Committee were happy to approve it.
RESOLVED to RECOMMEND to the CABINET: That the response to the consultation, at Appendix 1 to the report, be recommended for approval to allow it to be sent by the submission deadline. |
