Local and parish elections


Local and parish council elections take place every four years. To vote in an election, you must be registered to vote.

Local elections

There are no elections taking place on 7 May 2026.  We elect all 49 councillors at the same time every four years. Because of this, some years have no scheduled votes.

Our next local elections are due to take place in 2028.

Parish council elections

Maidstone has both parished and unparished areas. Several councillors are elected each year to represent the parish based on its size. The next election will take place in 2028.

Parish meetings

Smaller parish areas do not have a council of their own. These are called parish meetings. Current parish meetings in the borough are:

  • Hucking
  • Otterden
  • Wichling
  • Wormshill

By elections

If a councillor leaves their role before the end of the four years, a by-election may be held. This will happen if the electors of the parish vote for it. Alternatively, the parish council may co-opt to fill the position.
