Crisis payment
The Household Assistance Fund provides short-term financial support to people on a low income and facing an emergency. If you cannot afford everyday essentials, you may be able to get help.
If you need urgent help, you can also apply for support from Kent County Council.
What the fund can help with
You can use the money to pay for:
- electricity, water or gas bills
- white goods or furniture
- food, fuel or public transport
You cannot use the fund to:
- pay off debts, loans, credit cards, or overdrafts
- replace lost income unless something unexpected has happened
- pay for leisure activities, non-essential items or lifestyle choices
Who can apply
You can apply if you are a low-income household or receive a means-tested benefit and:
- a financial emergency or crisis has happened
- have no other way to resolve the crisis
- live in Maidstone
You must have permission to apply for someone else.
How to apply
We need to know:
- who lives in your household
- your household income and benefits
- your National Insurance Numbers
You must upload clear copies or photographs of:
- three months of bank statements for all sole and joint bank accounts

What happens next
We will look at your application and email you with our decision as soon as we can. If your application is urgent, it will be prioritised.
Financial support is limited. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee a payment.
Our welfare team will work with all applicants. They will give advice and signposts to other organisations that can help.
