Briefing one

This session took place on 8 February 2024. It provided information about the boundary and elections act changes.

Update: ward maps may be used on election material as long as the licence number is included.

Briefing two

This session is due to take place on 18 March 2024. It will provide information about nominations, count arrangements and election expenses.

  • name
  • party, group or independent status
  • role: prospective candidate or agent

Webinars

The Electoral Commission is hosting a pre-election webinar for candidates and their agents taking part in local and parish elections in England on 2 May 2024. This will take place on 11 April between 1pm and 2pm.

The webinar will focus on the spending and donation rules, including:

  • when the spending rules apply
  • how much can be spent
  • notional spending rules
  • accepting donations
  • details you must report in your spending return
  • guidance on harassment and intimidation at elections

There will also be a chance to ask questions. To register your interest sign up using the Electoral Commission form.

Councillor inductions

We are giving advanced notice to candidates of dates for their diaries should they be elected as Councillors. Inductions will take place on the following dates:

  • councillor induction part 1 - 8 May 2024 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm
  • councillor induction part 2 - 15 May 2024 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm

Candidates register request form

Candidates can request a copy of the electoral register for the area they are standing in. They are only entitled to receive this information from the last date for publication of Notice of Election. This will be the 26 March 2024.

To receive a copy of this information, complete the candidate register request form and return it to us using the details at the bottom of the page. You will need to include a real signature when completing this form.

Candidate safety

HMG has issued a video regarding the safety and security of candidates for forthcoming elections. It shows where you can access security advice and guidance that may be helpful to you during an election period.

Nominations

Nominations are now open from 10am to 4pm each working day until 4pm on 5 April 2024.

You can book your slot for nomination papers to be checked and handed in by phoning Electoral Services on 01622 602007
