We the undersigned petition the council to We, the local community, are petitioning to have low level fencing and bollards erected around the field to reduce crime, fly-tipping and improper use of the green such and traveler pitching up.
In the last 18 months the area has had a lot of crime and those
of us with young children, those that walk our dogs and local
sports teams have really been affected by the improper use of the
public green. A majority of the community enjoy having a lovely
open space and are respectful of the area in which we share.
Unfortunately not everyone shares the same appreciation of the area
and ruin it for the rest of us. We would like low level wooden
barriers erected so that it is still accessible for dog walkers,
children, people with disabilities etc but not for larger vehicles
such as caravans, cars and so on. Obviously there needs to be
access for council workers to mow and emergency services to access
the field. I know this is something that can be achieved as
Parkwood has fencing around. This would then enable the police to
take action when needed, as it would be a criminal offence if the
area was to be accessed and driven on. It is not only disruptive
for the local residents but more importantly it is putting peoples
lives at risk. Worst case senario; one day someone could get hit by
the cars which race around the field. Adding to which I’ve
been told of human waste and defication being left on the field
which again is an environmental hazard to those that use the field.
The cost of sending the council workers to clean up every time is
surely more in the long run than putting up small barriers. I know
it will be costly but surely prevention is better than cure in this
case?
