The Food Standards Agency enables local
authorities to charge food businesses for revisits where they wish
to have a rescore to improve their Food Hygiene Rating score. This
is a commercial not a public health or regulatory enforcement
decision. There are clear guidelines that the officers have to
follow when considering the revisit which include the time period
to undertake the revisit.
As such requests will have an impact on the workload of the service
there is a justifiable reason to consider charging the business.
The charge set has been agreed by the Fees and Charges Committee
and covers the officer time and administration of the
process.
