Pursuant to the Local Authorities (Executive Arrangements) (Meetings and Access to Information) (England) Regulations 2012, Regulation 5 and Regulation 11.

Notice is hereby given that the Lead Member for Environmental Services, Maidstone Borough Council, intends to make a key decision in respect of the matter outlined below. It is possible that the Lead Member may need to enter into closed session during the consideration of the item.
As the 28 days’ notice required by Regulations 5 and 9 of the above Regulations, alongside the rules for General Exemption under Regulation 10 of the above Regulations, are impracticable to be complied with for the reasons set out below. Therefore, notice is hereby given that the Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee has agreed that the making of the decision is urgent and cannot reasonably be deferred.

Description |
Proposal to extend the existing waste contract until March 2024 to enable the completion of the new contract procurement. |
REASON THAT COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATION 5 IS IMPRACTICABLE
The Council cannot proceed to the Final Tender stage of the waste contract procurement without agreeing an extension to the existing contract. The Council need to provide a response to the Mid Kent Partnership by 19 August 2022, and so the decision must be made by this date.
APPROVAL
I, the Chairman of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee have been consulted and agree that the making of the decision is urgent and cannot reasonably be deferred.
