Energy efficiency grants

Energy efficiency top-up grant

We may be able to help if you own your home and find it hard to keep warm. You could get up to £5,000 to help pay for home improvements. This funding can be used alongside other local or national grants.

The money can be used to pay for:

  • boiler upgrades
  • insulation
  • solar panels
  • heat pumps

Through our Winter Warmth Project, you may be able to get up to £5,000 that you do not need to pay back. The funding is provided by one of our partner contractors.

Who can apply

You must:

  • own your home
  • have lived there for at least three years
  • get a means-tested benefit

If you do not receive a means-tested benefit, you may still be able to get help. We will check whether your health or circumstances make you more at risk from living in a cold home.

This follows guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Property eligibility

The grant is for homes with an Energy Performance Rating of E, F or G. The work must improve your home's energy rating.

Grant conditions

We do not award this grant automatically. Any award depends on available funding.

If you get a grant, you must repay it if you sell your home or give ownership of it to someone else. We will register a local land charge on your property.
