Grants for repairs
Discretionary grants of up to £30,000 may be available to help owner-occupiers pay for essential repairs and improvements to their homes.
Financial eligibility
The occupier(s) must receive a means-tested benefit such as:
- Council Tax Support
- Guaranteed Pension Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based Job Seekers' Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credit with an income of less than £15,050
- Child Tax Credit with an income of less than £15,050
Work eligibility
The property must need repairs or improvements to remove serious hazards. For example:
- repairing a leaking roof
- treating damp or mould problems
- replacing dangerous wiring
Occupation eligibility
The owner must have lived in the property for at least three years. It must be their only or main residence.
Conditions
These grants are discretionary and subject to available funding.
If awarded, the grant must be repaid if the property is sold or transferred. A local land charge will be registered against the property.
