Platinum Jubilee celebrations
We are helping to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s incredible 70-year reign by holding a variety of events.
Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952 and is the longest serving British monarch. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977, her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002 and her Diamond Jubilee (60 years) in 2012.
Events in Maidstone
Jubilee Proms in the Park
To kick off the celebrations a rousing Proms in the Park will be held at the magnificent Whatman Park Riverstage on Saturday 28 May from 3pm to 8pm for an unforgettable afternoon and evening of classical music. This free event is open for everyone to go along for a relaxing summer afternoon in the park. Music from:

This event is taking place through the kind sponsorship of Weston Homes allowing the event to be free of charge.
Bandstand concerts in Brenchley
A series of bandstand concerts will be held in Brenchley Gardens on 31 July, 6 August, 14 August, 20 August, 28 August and 3 September. These are free events, everyone is welcome to come along, bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it.
Together Festival concert
There will be a special free event for 2000 NHS key workers as a way of saying thank you for their amazing hard work and dedication during the pandemic. The Together Festival concert will be held in Mote Park on Friday 3 June from 1pm to 10pm. With performances from

As well as Angelo Starr (brother of Edwin Starr), performing Edwin Starr’s greatest hits. The show will also play host to entertainment from our 'Best of British tributes'; Queen, Elton John and The Beatles, with 80s, 90s and rock anthem performances from 80s HiFi, Lovin’ The 90s and Marylebone Jelly.

Maidstone museum three special Jubilee half term craft sessions
Maidstone Museum is holding three special ‘Make It’ Jubilee Half Term Craft sessions on Monday 30 May, Tues 31 May and Wednesday 1 June. Children aged 4-11 can make jubilee themed crowns, castles and corgis. £3 per child per session. To book go to the Maidstone museum website.
There will also be a Jubilee themed trail around the museum.
Mayor’s Afternoon tea party
In celebration of this magnificent achievement the Mayor of Maidstone is hosting a special Afternoon Tea on Wednesday 1 June 2022 in a marquee in Jubilee Square. To find out more and apply please visit our webpage.
National picnic week
As part of national picnic week from 18 to 26 June residents will be encouraged to grab a blanket and basket and get outside for a good old fashioned picnic. Taking in one of our many parks and open spaces to celebrate the Jubilee. Theme picnics with red, white and blue and some wonderful traditional food to make it really royal.
Queen’s Green Canopy
We are creating seven new wooded areas with copses of trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, each with 70 trees across parks and open spaces in the borough. Planting will take place from late October 2022 and local community groups will be invited to help plant them as a permanent reminder of this historic year.
We are also helping to make the town centre look more patriotic with Union flag bunting and welcome lamppost banners as well as a number of cascading flower towers, hanging and barrier baskets, all colour themed red, white, blue and 'platinum' grey foliage.
There will also be an ornamental carpet bed in Brenchley Gardens which will be a Jubilee themed Union flag with a 70 years motif.
The Visit Maidstone website will also feature any locally planned street parties and events.
Platinum Jubilee celebrations will take place throughout the UK and the Commonwealth as part of a year-long programme of events. It is hoped as many people as possible participate at any point from January to December 2022.
The nation will be celebrating the jubilee with a four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June 2022 to Sunday 5 June 2022.
