Apply for planning permission

Before you apply for planning permission, please check that it is needed before submitting an application. We also offer a pre-application advice service.

Applications

All planning applications can be submitted through the Planning Portal. The benefits of doing this online means that:

  • there is help and advice
  • easily attach plans and drawings
  • save time and money

Validation checklist

Before submitting your application please check our validation checklist to make sure that you have provided the correct information.

Paper applications

You can apply by filling in the appropriate application form on our Planning Portal and sending it with all the supporting documents to:

Mid Kent Planning Support
Maidstone House
King Street
Maidstone
ME15 6JQ

You need to send us the application forms, any documents/plans and pay the right fee. You can pay by using our form.

What happens next

Once we have received your application we will check the application to make sure it's complete. A complete application includes:

  • the information asked for on the application form
  • any necessary national requirements
  • specific information listed in our local requirements

Once we have all of the relevant information, we will make sure it's valid with our checklist. We will then start the process of deciding whether to approve it or not. We'll notify you in writing about this.

After receiving a valid planning application, amended plans and extra documents will not normally be accepted unless the case officer has contacted you. It is important that these matters are sorted out before a planning application is submitted.

Further advice is available on our pre application advice page. Once the application is in, it is up to the case officer to make a decision within the legal timeframe.

Once your application is considered valid, it goes on our planning register and we give it a reference number.

Decisions

Most planning applications are decided within 8 weeks, unless they are large or complex when the time limit is extended to 12 weeks.

Approved applications

Once we have approved your application we will let you know.

Refused applications

If we have refused your application we will give you the reasons why.
